Boiler Upgrade Scheme Eligibility
The UK Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers homeowners an opportunity to improve their energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and lower energy bills. By upgrading to a more efficient heat pump, eligible households can enjoy enhanced home comfort while contributing to the nation’s sustainability goals.
You’re eligible for a grant if you meet the following requirements:
- You must own the property you’re applying for
- The start date of installation of your new heat pump or biomass boiler should be on or after 1 April 2022
- Be replacing fossil fuel heating systems (such as oil, gas or electric)
How to check if your property is eligible?
The property must provide a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that has been issued within the last ten years with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation.
Properties that are not eligible for the grant
You cannot get a grant for:
- Homes outside England or Wales
- New build developments
- Social housing Properties
- Property that’s already been given government funding or support for a heat pump or biomass boiler.

How to apply for the boiler upgrade scheme?
Here are 3 easy steps to apply for the grant:
- Contact Eco Footprint or any MCS-certified installers to get quotes for the work.
- Check if you’re eligible (we will do this on your behalf).
- Agree on a quote.
Then your chosen installer will apply on your behalf on the Ofgem website.
Is the boiler upgrade scheme still running?
The UK Gov’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme will now run until 2028 after it was extended.
